A FAIRY TALE LIFESTYLE

Fairytale mug by Julie Dodsworth

I'm always delighted when I find some little item which I know will bring a bit of magic and enchantment into my every day life. We cannot all live in a castle or storybook cottage but it is possible to find small inexpensive items which give great joy when we see them and use them in real life.

I loved this mug when first I found it and could not resist.  The floral design with it's fine tendrils captured my interest straight away .... and then I read what it says inside the rim.

This is a wondrous design by talented Yorkshire artist Julie Dodsworth. This is what she says about this mug:

"Fairytale - Another one of our favourite haunts are the woods at Bolton Abbey. Come late spring, the bluebells form the most incredible blue haze, the walk is intoxicating. As a child I thought the tiny blue bell flowers were fairy bonnets! Fairytale is my tribute."

Drinking my morning tea from it makes me cheerful all day and when the day has worn on and I am flagging a lovely cup of Earl Grey with lemon refreshes me for the evening.

You can get it from Julie's own website, or if you have a Waitrose local to you they are stocking them too!

You can add your own old chair with comfy cushions and fairytale Bunny or Fox!

Have a good look around her new website, she is offering a lot of wonderful items.

  1. I very much enjoyed the description about the fairytale mug ~
Julies's intentions when she designed it, your appreciation when you use it.
I also was also very much enamored with the little fox that guards the cup and the adorable bunny that polishes the handle for you.

  3. I really do like that mug and even though we have a Waitrose just down the road, it's not a huge one and does not stock these so I'm off to look at her website now. I love the little characters you have sitting by the mug in the photos. x

    1. Funny - I thought of you when I posed the Bunny! He's made by an artists in Carmel, California, of paper mache. I picked him up on a visit home. x

  5. Hi Minerva, thanks for leaving your comment regarding the bread - the smell was heavenly! It didn't last long either...bread, butter and drizzly honey! I too have the same philosophy - we can't all live in enchanted cottages but we can buy small things that somehow remind us of how enchanting life is and surround ourselves with those things...hope you have a lovely weekend! 7. Loving these items by Julie. The mug is great with the fairytale writing and the design is kind of vintage too, it reminds me a bit of Cath Kidston.
It is always good to pick up a bargain and I will take a look in Waitrose to see if I can see the mugs in there. I agree with snap, always strive to live in a fairy world, it does not matter how big or small your castle is! ;-)

    1. Jo, Yes, it is a floral like Cath's things and also vintage looking. I liked that combination with the way that it is slightly more wild. x

  9. What an enchantingly lovely post - I completely agree with you, it's so important to inject special touches of magicly lovely happiness into our worlds via the items we adorn our abodes with. Many is the time a twenty-five or fifty cent thrifted item (such as a cute vintage animal figure) has brought such a much needed hit of joy into my world. These pieces cost so little, but delivered so much happiness, making them worth their weight in gold.

*PS* Thank you very, very much for your terrifically lovely comment on my vintage outfit post yesterday. I'm touched to know that the colour palette I was sporting that day would have met with your grandma's approval. ♥

  10. How nice. It reminds me a little bit of a cross between Kath Kidston and canal art - very pretty.
