SEASONS ~ The Snow Drop Fairy has come

We love Autumn and Winter and have enjoyed being in our little snow covered village perched atop Wiltshire. Even though some cold remains after Valentine's Day the romance of it always seem to herald a new season, a warmer, floral one. The icy winds have turned more gentle, the snow has melted, the Thrush is singing.

1930 Cicely Mary Barker

During the cold and dark of Winter underneath the snow tender stems and blossom of snow drops were waiting and now they gift us with their Heavenly scent and delicate vision.  Even though they come each year, how could our hearts not be filled with a little joy at the sight of them?

Cafe tables are adorned with the buds of Daffodils, and soon the morning sun, just glinting briefly, will lengthen into hours. A perfect reason to wrap up warm and go outside. It is a lucky thing to be alive in Spring.

  1. Hello:
We do recall, from our gardening days, the great joy to be had from seeing the first of the snowdrops push through and were, all that time ago, inspired to plant a snowdrop walk which meant, each year, patiently dividing those precious plants 'in the green'.

  4. Even spotted my first crocuses today as well - regeneration, however inevitable, delights me every year x

  5. Dear Minerva,
even as a child I loved the drawings of Mary Cecily Barker - so light and beautiful! And snowdrops: the white so pure, the flower so headstrong and yet delicate. In Berlin we are waiting: soon the beechwood in the Botanical Garden will have a field of snowdrops at his feet.

  15. I am looking for the buds of spring here, but fear that 8 inches of rain since last week will have them just float away. Lovely post, ma chère amie.

  17. A lovely post, makes me feel hopeful this endless grey will soon go. I'm looking for signs of Spring here, being urban & that much further North means we're less in touch with the Seasons are you are. Lovely to meet you. xxx

  18. There are some wonderful snow drop woods near you. There's one just outside Chilton Foliat which I always try to get to see.

And what a delightful bedspread with the gold embroidery.

    1. Thank you! We wondered if perhaps we had thought 'Spring' a tad early as just after posting this snow returned. But Spring is in our thoughts. x
